We spent all day waiting for the M/V Columbia to arrive in Haines. It is the vehicle we will travel in as we make our way down the Alaska Marine Highway to Bellingham.
We lined up a little after 1 pm, though we were only required to be there at 5. A few others also arrived early.
By 5, there were quite a few vehicles in line and M/V Columbia had sailed into view.
About 6:30, we drove onto the ferry,
parked and checked with the purser for our cabin assignment.
The room is small, but a great place to be for three and a half days.
It meets all our needs and it is definitely better than sleeping on the deck, even if you bring a mattress.
The ferry has a snack bar, a dining room, a couple of comfortable rooms for viewing the scenery. There is a movie theater, as well.
We are very happy to be on the ferry. It is expensive, but really worth it to avoid driving south through Canada for the next two and a half weeks.
