Everything's Bigger in Texas

You better believe it. Last week, we bought diesel fuel at Buc-ee's in New Braunfels. According to Wikipedia, the "travel center is the largest convenience store in the world at 68,000 square feet. The store features 120 fuel pumps, 31 cash registers, 4 Icee machines, 80 fountain dispensers, tubing and water gear for the Guadalupe River, and a farmer's market that features Grade 1 fruit and produce. In case you doubt those claims to fame, just look.

They sell an amazing selection of merchandise. John tried on a cowboy hat.

When I think of Texas, I think of beer. But there are lots of wineries here and Buc-ee's sells Texas wine gift bags.

How about some BBQ?

Or snacks? If you want your children to eat healthy snacks in the car, don't bring them here. Many of those shelves hold gummy bears and gummy worms.

This is a snack I wouldn't even touch, much less eat.

If you are planning on going home to smoke some meat, they sell what you need.

According to the same Wikipedia article, " Buc-ee's travel centers are large stores that typically cover over 60,000 of square footage with large restrooms that contain over 40 urinals and toilets." Not only are the restrooms large

They provide both hand sanitizer and sanitizing wipes for the toilet seats!

There was one thing about Buck-ee's that was small. In central Texas, the diesel fuel cost ranges from $3.69 to $3.75 a gallon. At Buc-ee's, we paid $3.48.

  3. That is amazing, although John doesn't look too thrilled with his cowboy hat.
