You might have mentioned that the Alaska Hwy was a construction miracle during WWII being build in record short time with little regard for the best route or environmental concerns. That Canada allowed this road is a sacrifice that Canada made for our American cousins who were afraid the Japanese would invade Alaska and it would be hard to defend without this road across our "sovereign nation". This road like all roads in the far north should not be paved. A good quality gravel road can be maintained more easily to repair frost heave.<br /><br />I love the amount of wildlife you are seeing. As for Sandhill Cranes, they nest reguarly on my farm. A number of years ago they showed up as they were moving east from their traditional central north America flyway.
